A Comparison of Arch Style and Rigid Frame All-Steel Buildings

Before settling on one particular style of pre-engineered steel structure framework you should acquaint yourself with other styles available on the market. Agricultural and commercial grade steel buildings are available in several key designs. Rigid frame and arch are the styles of all-steel buildings you should look at.

Quonset huts are more commonly known as arch style steel buildings. The distinctive form is a result of the roofing and sidewalls of the building, which are formed by using a sequence of interlocking metal pieces. Arch building systems can be used as storage structures, small and large enclosures, and storage sheds. These metal buildings are very attractive for buyers who are able to assemble structures by themselves. When compared with traditional methods, the assembly methods for an arch building are relatively simple and produce a nominal final cost. However, challenges may arise if windows and doors are necessary because an arch metal structure can only support these items in the end walls, and not in the sides of the building. Moreover, the overhead clearance within an arch configuration building becomes less as you move away from the center of the building to the side walls.

A rigid frame design of pre-engineered steel structure is a more attractive configuration of structure set-up because it can be used for a wider array of requirements. It is a popular style of building assembly because it includes all-steel skeleton structural framework and also flat steel elements for the walls and rooftops. Rigid frame building systems are easier to erect than standard methods yet do not need any more equipment and experience than arch design buildings. The use of a stable structural framework allows for easy additions or enlargements to the entire structure at a later date. With any rigid frame building that has an appropriate height, you will be able to add a second story or even a mezzanine floor. Additionally, windows and doors can be installed to both the side walls and end walls. A basement can be included with either style but it will make your work more complicated and costly. Concrete foundations are absolutely recommended whether your option is an arch shape assembly or a rigid frame structure assembly.

Regardless of the type of steel building you choose, building ordinance authorization is necessary. Statutes differ between locations. The “specs” required for proper snow and wind loading, seismic (or earthquake) activity counteraction, and all other local requirements are included. Local zoning ordinances and rainwater drainage requirements are other terms to consider that will influence the type of structure you choose. A professional steel building fabricator or provider can set up the configuration of your structure to satisfy or exceed any building coding issues, although it remains your own responsibility to obtain the correct approvals.

Unless you are 100% set on a particular building type, do not send a deposit immediately. Instead, thoroughly investigate the pros and cons of the two building types to find the one that will best suit your needs, before you buy.
