Delivery of Your Steel Building
After purchasing your steel building system, the building will usually be delivered by a third-party carrier. Delivery arrangements will made by the supplier according to the order documents. If you need to make a special arrangement, you will want to be sure that this is specified in the order documents.
When making the shipping arrangements, the delivery will be made at the plant. If the shipping is subcontracted to a common carrier, the carrier is responsible for the receipt of the material
When making the shipping arrangements, the delivery will be made at the plant. If the shipping is subcontracted to a common carrier, the carrier is responsible for the receipt of the material
at the plant and the transportation of the building materials to the delivery address.
You will then be responsible for the receipt of the materials at the delivery address unless the receipt of the materials is subcontrated to a contractor or erector. If the steel building supplier will be making the shipping arrangements, the building materials will be delivered to the address specified in the order documents. Be sure to specify the correct delivery address in the order documents. If the address is incorrect in the order documents and the building is shipped to the wrong location, it will be your responsibility.
- Specifying the Delivery Date
When you purchase a steel building, it will be your responsibility to specify the shipping date. Many people do not realize that it takes several weeks to design and fabricate a steel building system. During the busy season, it can be several months before your building is fabricated. Be sure to take this into consideration when planning your construction project.
If the steel building system will be delivered to the site prior to beginning the erection process, be sure to have plastic or other covering materials available that can protect the building materials from the elements. Steel buildings are delivered with protective coatings and primer, but this is not enough if the materials will be sitting on the ground for a few weeks prior to erection.
During the busy season, most steel building erectors are booked out weeks or months in advance. It is a good idea to begin making arrangements for the erection of your building as soon as possible. After you have scheduled the erection of the building, you will be able to specify the delivery date of your steel building system.
